Safety
Due to the dangers associated with hose whips, coupling connections are subject to Health and Safety regulations (OHSA).
The Health & Safety Guide HS(G)39 recommends that the connector should have a self-exhaust coupling for all hoses above 10 mm bore, more than 10 m long, or subject to a pressure exceeding 7 bar.
If an air hose is more than ½-inch (12.7 millimeters) in diameter, a safety excess flow valve must be installed at the air supply source to reduce pressure in case of hose failure.
Alternatively, workers should use an adaptor with an exhaust function.
Using a self-vent safety coupling ensures that pressure in the circuit is reduced to a safe level before people can disconnect the coupling and adaptor;
this prevents accidental tool operation and uncontrolled whipping of the hose.
Not only does this enhance workplace safety by protecting users from the severe injuries caused by hose whips, but companies can benefit from increased uptime and fewer repair or replacement expenses.
Convinience
People can use the push button in narrow places and wear thick gloves to operate it with one hand.
